“My girlfriend (now fiance) and I were living in New York City and decided to make a change in our lives. We packed up everything and moved to Buenos Aires in October of 2006. when we arrived, we didn’t know anyone, barely spoke Spanish and had no idea how to use a bus system with 200+ lines instead of the subway. Magdalena’s school was recommended to us by our realtor. We went over, spoke to her and it was an immediate fit! Besides being an excellent place to learn Spanish (and i would say that by the time we left Buenos Aires we were fluent – fluent enough to go camping through patagonia and stay in tiny, no-English towns) but the general philosophy of a Spanish school that is more than just a school made it all the more incredible. Maggie and he teachers (whom are all excellently trained professionals, as well as cool people) believe that a school for foreigners should be a community. This being the case there was always a class trip around the city to go on, and numerous parties thrown at the school, at homes of teachers and students and at bars and restaurants around the city. By the end of our time in Buenos Aires we felt like true Porteños. We since have returned to New York City (Home of amazing bagels as teacher Mariel Benaros will tell you with a smile),and although our Spanish has slipped a bit (but not much), the lessons in language and life that i learned at VOS have stuck with me. Not a day goes by that i don’t think of Buenos Aires, our apartment on Suipacha Street, eating empanadas, taking in the theater and amazing food, and missing our community in what we now consider our second home: VOS in Buenos Aires. Muchissimo Gracias a todos las professoras en VOS. Nos vemos pronto.”
